Princess Jacel H. Kiram is a distinguished cultural leader, sports executive, and advocate of international relations, peacebuilding, and diplomacy. As the President of the Philippine Silat Sports Association, she has played a transformative role in institutionalizing Pencak Silat within the national framework of the Philippines.
Her leadership has been instrumental in integrating Pencak Silat into the country’s educational system through the Department of Education (DepEd), where the sport is now featured in the Palarong Pambansa, reaching students across all 17 regions. This milestone has significantly elevated national participation and awareness of the sport.
Princess Jacel is widely recognized for her efforts in youth empowerment and grassroots development. Through initiatives such as “Silat for All,” she has created pathways for out-of-school youth to access scholarships, structured training programs, and opportunities to represent the nation at international competitions. Her work particularly emphasizes inclusion, discipline, and peace-building, especially in regions such as Mindanao.
Under her leadership, the Philippine Pencak Silat movement has experienced strong organizational growth, with increased grassroots participation and improved international performance, including medal success in regional competitions such as the Southeast Asian Games.
Beyond sports, she is an influential voice in cultural diplomacy, continuing the legacy of her father, Jamalul Kiram III, and promoting historical and cultural connections linked to the Maritime Silk Road. Her work bridges sport, heritage, and diplomacy, contributing to international understanding and cooperation.
