The Singapore Silat Federation (PERSISI) is the official governing body for Pencak Silat in Singapore. Established in 1976, the federation has played a central role in preserving, promoting, and developing Silat as both a cultural heritage and a competitive sport.
The roots of Pencak Silat in Singapore date back to 1819, when immigrants from the Malay Archipelago—including regions such as Sumatra, Java, and the Malay Peninsula—brought their traditional martial arts with them as Singapore emerged as a British trading outpost. These traditions formed the foundation of Silat’s growth within the country.
Recognized by the Singapore National Olympic Council, PERSISI has established a strong institutional framework for the sport. It organizes competitions, training programs, and development initiatives while maintaining close ties with regional and international Pencak Silat organizations.
Through its long-standing history, cultural significance, and commitment to excellence, the Singapore Silat Federation continues to strengthen the presence of Pencak Silat in Singapore and contribute actively to the global Silat community.
