The Nigeria Pencak Silat Association (NPSA) is the emerging national body responsible for the development and promotion of Pencak Silat in Nigeria. The sport was introduced in 2019 after one of its founders completed a PhD in Terengganu, where he gained experience as both a coach and practitioner before returning to Nigeria to establish the discipline.
Since its introduction, Pencak Silat has expanded across multiple regions of Nigeria, including the Northwest, Northcentral, Northeast, Southwest, South-South, and Southeast zones. The federation has developed a growing structure that includes:
- Clubs: 36
- Athletes: 275
- Coaches: 12 (currently not IPSF-certified)
Although the association is still in its developmental phase and does not yet have certified international officials, it continues to build its technical capacity and organizational framework.
Nigeria has engaged with the international Silat community and received an invitation to participate in the World Pencak Silat Championships 2024 in Dubai, although participation was not possible due to visa constraints.
With a wide geographical reach and growing participation, the Nigeria Pencak Silat Association is steadily laying the foundation for the future growth of Pencak Silat in the country and across West Africa.
