The Higher Technical Committee of Pencak Silat in Syria is the emerging national body responsible for the development and promotion of Pencak Silat in Syria. The sport began gaining recognition in the country in October 2023, with formal organizational steps completed shortly after.
The committee was officially established on 28 November 2023, and by May 2024, further structural development had been implemented to support the sport’s growth. The federation has received recognition and support through coordination with the Indonesian Embassy in Syria, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and PERSILAT.
Despite being newly formed, the organization has demonstrated rapid growth:
- Perguruans (Schools): 1
- Athletes: 350
- Coaches: 55
- Referees/Jurors: 20
The sport has quickly gained popularity, with active efforts to develop athletes and technical officials. Syria had planned to participate in the World Pencak Silat Championship 2024 in Abu Dhabi, but was unable to attend due to challenging national circumstances.
With strong initial growth and institutional backing, the Higher Technical Committee of Pencak Silat in Syria is working to establish a solid foundation for the sport and expand its presence nationally and internationally.
