About Federation

Surinaamse Pencak Silat Associatie (SPSA) is the national governing body responsible for the promotion and development of Pencak Silat in Suriname. Established in the mid-1980s, SPSA has played a vital role in preserving and expanding the rich tradition of Pencak Silat within the country.

The association is composed of seven recognized perguruans (schools), each contributing to the growth and diversity of Silat in Suriname:

  • SUDAKA – led by Maridjo R Tjitrodipo
  • GELAP SAYUTOH – led by Soegiarto N Jamin
  • SINGO LUWE – led by Rakimin Kalidjo
  • ILANG PUTIH – led by Amatsabar Kasanoemar
  • ILMU LIMA – led by Francisco Sontohartono
  • DJANGRE – led by Premkisan Bateswar
  • KILAT BUWANA – led by Florence H. Wangsabesari-Jamin

SPSA maintains a strong and active community, comprising approximately 250 athletes, supported by 25 coaches and 25 referees/jurors. This structure reflects a well-balanced development of both competitive and technical aspects of the sport.

Through its established network of schools and dedicated leadership, the Surinaamse Pencak Silat Associatie continues to promote Pencak Silat as a cultural heritage and competitive discipline, contributing to its growth in Suriname and across the Americas.
